Experimental Study on the Relationship between the Behavior of Mitochondria in Hepatic Cell, and Changes of the E.S.R. and Plasma Protein Fractions in the Rabbits Inoculated with Tubercle Bacilli

Abstract
The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is a nonspecific reaction; it accelerates generally in the conditions such as acute and chronic infection or tissue destruction. However it is as a guide to the prognosis of disease, particularly in tuberculosis. In one the author¢¥s article, reported previously, comparative observation of E.S.R., liver function test and plasms protein fraction was performed on minimal pulmonary¢¥ tuberculosis patients. In order the author have attemped to investigate relationship between the behavior of mitochondria in hepatic cell, and changes of the E.S.R. and plasma protein fractions in the rabbits inoculated with tubercle bacilli.
The results were as follows:
1) In normal rabbits, the shape of mitochondrias in liver cell are globular, filamentous or stabformed and are uniform in size.
2) In the rabbits, inoculated with tubercle bacilli, E.S.R.was increased, and both amounts of total
protein and plasma albumin were decreased, but fibrinogen was markedly increased, and mitoc-
hondrias of hepatic cells became swollen.
